About this service
Airflow Diagnostic & Duct Balancing Assessment
If some rooms in your home are always warmer or colder than others, the problem usually isn't the size of your air conditioner. It's how the air moves through your ducts. Long or undersized runs, crushed flex, leaky joints, missing returns and dampers set by guesswork all keep air from reaching the rooms that need it. Replacing the AC or adding a smart thermostat rarely fixes that, and closing vents in other rooms often makes it worse.
Swift's Residential Airflow Diagnostic and Duct Balancing Assessment measures what your system is actually doing. We read total external static pressure with a manometer and compare it with your air handler's rated limit. We measure airflow at every supply register with a flow hood or anemometer and compare each room with what its load requires. We run a duct leakage test that pressurizes the duct system to find out how much air escapes before it reaches your rooms. And we take room-by-room temperature readings and scan ceilings, walls and duct runs with a thermal camera.
Then we balance the system: adjusting dampers, correcting register sizes and styles, adding transfer grilles or jumper ducts so closed bedrooms have a return path, and sealing the leaks we can reach. Our target is the same one we design to on new installations, every bedroom within 3°F of the thermostat, consistent with ACCA's Manual RS comfort guidelines.
You get a clear explanation of every reading and of what we changed. If something bigger is needed, such as a new return, duct repairs or a full duct replacement designed with Manual J and Manual D, we'll show you the numbers that support it and give you a price before any further work. The assessment is a paid diagnostic visit, and we quote the fee when you book. Call (561) 685-8408 to schedule.

Frequently asked questions
Four: total external static pressure measured with a manometer, airflow at every supply register measured with a flow hood or anemometer, a duct leakage test that pressurizes the duct system, and room-by-room temperature readings with a thermal camera scan. We then balance the system where we can and review the results with you.
It's a paid diagnostic visit. The fee depends on the size of your home and the number of systems, and we quote it when you book so there are no surprises. Any balancing adjustments we can make during the visit are included, and any further repairs are priced before we do them.
It's the resistance your blower pushes against from the ducts, filter, coil and grilles. Every air handler has a maximum the manufacturer allows. When the reading is above it, airflow drops, comfort suffers, the blower works harder and the coil can even freeze. It's one of the first numbers we check.
Usually not. Closing registers raises the pressure in the duct system, which can reduce total airflow, push more air out of leaks in the attic and make the blower work harder. Balancing with branch dampers and measured airflow is the safer way to send more air where it's needed.
Sometimes the measurements show that a room's duct is simply too small for its load, the ducts leak too much or the return can't move enough air. In that case, we explain what the readings show and quote the fix, from a new return or a resized branch to a full duct replacement designed with Manual J and Manual D.
Most homes take a few hours, depending on the size of the house, the number of systems and attic access. Someone should be home so we can reach every room and the attic, and so we can walk you through the results at the end.
